Through its Arts and Culture Development Branch, the City’s Community, Arts and Culture Development Department will make nearly R8 million available over the next two financial years to qualifying organisations in the arts, culture and heritage sector. The application process is open and will conclude on 3 December 2025. 

 

‘Arts, culture and heritage have the power to change lives. They provide a space for people to discover their voice, for communities to come together and for our shared stories to be told. The projects are also educational and can enhance and develop skills among our youth and vulnerable groups, especially in disadvantaged groups, to build a brighter future,’ said Councillor Francine Higham, Mayoral Committee Member for Community Services and Health.

 

An amount of R3 810 146 is available for each year - funding is available for two financial years, but a separate application is required for each year. Proposals submitted should focus on sustainable cultural projects targeting young people (seven – 35 years) or vulnerable groups such as women, children, seniors, and persons with disabilities.

 

These projects may include programmes, productions, performances, public activations, and exhibitions, especially those that are accessible and affordable to local communities.
 

All applications will be assessed against the Grants-in-aid Policy and must conform to the Municipal Financial Management Act, Act 56 of 2003.

 

Applicants must have the ability to deliver on the objectives stated in this call and late or incomplete applications will not be accepted.

 

Proposals for grants-in-aid must be made in writing on an official application form (available from all subcouncil offices, the Arts and Culture Branch and online on www.capetown.gov.za/grants-in-aid).
